Rise of anti-India Twitter accounts: India talks with Gulf countries

NEW DELHI: The number of anti-India Twitter handles has increased in the recent past in Gulf countries.  Foreign Minister S Jaishankar made this point when he telephoned several West Asian countries to greet the start of Ramadan.

Jaishankar held talks with Saudi Arabia and Oman's Foreign Minister on April 23.  On April 24, Qatar held talks with the United Arab Emirates and Palestinian Foreign Minister.  He also addressed the matter with the Bahraini, Kuwait and Algerian ministers.

Recently, a Twitter handle called @pak_fauj changed its name to Omani Royalty and was posting anti-India content.  The Omani princess later issued a statement, clarifying that someone had faked a tweet in her name.

During the dialogue with the Gulf leaders, the two countries found that it was aimed at destabilizing the special relationship between India and the Gulf States.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Gulf Corporation Council praised the contributions made by Indians living and working in the country.

India, on the other hand, is supplying medicines to many Gulf countries for coronavirus epidemic.

Hydroxychloroquine has been shipped to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Egypt and Palestine.

The Prime Minister has had telephone conversations with several countries regarding the epidemic.
